When a process request comes into an MDM to create a new object, Customer in this case, the default status is pending. This status allows the requesting system to associate the global ID for that object to the temporary ID that they created before publishing the request. Pending also says that no document that references that object can be published on the bus. This allows the MDM to create the item, assign its ID, but still go through a local workflow, one with possible human interaction prior to making that object available for general use. Once the customer has gone through the workflow and validation steps then a Sync message is published with the Open status which says this is a valid customer. When a customer is no longer used it can be moved to the closed status. This is a way of stating that nothing should be sold to this account. The Hold status is used to indicate that this account is on hold. Furthermore, it may indicate that if there is customer contact that some other actions should occur. This is typically for late payment or over credit limit situations. We never really delete anything across the enterprise since the MDM doesn???t know the requirements of the other systems in a distributed environment. We can mark it as deleted and all the other systems will understand that the MDM has either deleted the object or is treating it as deleted.</xs:documentation>
